The Fly Smart campaign has been launched by Hayward Aviation Ltd and QBE European Operations to promote greater safety in general aviation. The two firms have collaborated to produce a range of safety awareness posters which encourage pilots to "stop and think" about some of the most basic risks of flying before they leave the ground.
Throughout the year a series of eye-catching posters will be distributed to 400 flying schools in the UK and Eire. It is hoped that every private pilot in the UK will see the campaign at their local flying school, club or airfield during 2010.
The first poster, titled "Don't let your paperwork let you down" features an image designed to generate attention.
Guy Holland-Bosworth, Managing Director Hayward Aviation Ltd, said "this campaign is designed to raise awareness. It is often the case that the most simple "reality check" can avoid a serious incident or accident"
Emilio Di Silvio, Managing Director Aviation, QBE European Operations, commented: "As one of the leading private pilot insurers in the UK, pilot safety is obviously something that we take incredibly seriously. This campaign builds on our joint publication of James Allan's book Clearer Horizons in 2009. Together, we hope these campaigns can encourage greater safety"
In addition Haywards and QBE have produced a quick reference 'Pre-flight checklist' safety card, giving a shortlist of ten actions that a pilot should take at the start of a flight.
Further copies of this checklist can also be downloaded from this site.
Promoting Aviation Safety is a continuous process, enhanced through cooperation and communication. If you would like to suggest further "safety message" we would be delighted to receive these. Please e-mail any comments or suggestions to flysmart@haywards.net
